The moment I stepped inside the restaurant, the decorations of the place itself made me feel like I’m in a local diner somewhere in the heart of Naples, Italy. It’s not just your average thick-electric-oven-baked-pizza place, we’re speaking of brick oven baked pizza here, people. Their menu is packed with more than 30 varities of mouth watering pizzas. From the original Margherita to their top rated and recommended “SAPORITA” (which is topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, beef sausage and turkey). And after too much thinking, I decided to follow the recommendations along with a classic lasagna. The waiters were so nice and friendly and the food came in a modest interval of time. The lasagna was simply CLASSIC, it really tasted like your mother’s home made lasagna, even though it was a bit poor with salt, but it had a very accurate ratio between the béchamel sauce and the amount of cheese. In a nutshell, I was literally smiling while eating in such an authentic atmosphere. We tried one pizza and a pasta I cant remember the exact names but we have had a very nice experience. We enjoyed the food and even though the place is very small, the waiters were not invading our privacy. We ordered tea after we finished eating. It is good value for money. The only thing is that the filling of the pizza was quite poor on the edges as they were left plain without even tomato sauce. When we raised this issue the waiter tried to give some vague reasons. In general, I was happy with the experience but I think there may be somewhere else better.
I am Italian and I can say that Pizza mia is by far the best Pizza I've tried so far in Cairo. That said, a couple of remarks When you call for delivery and you ask to substitute an ingredient e.g. zucchini instead of aubergines, they will charge it as an extra. Not nice and not needed. The pizza by the slice is way better than the round one. It is thinner, better cooked, crunchier etc...unfortunately they do not deliver it so you're bound to order the round one, whose quality has worsen lately. It is smaller than before and sometimes comes undercooked, or with layers of an unknown yellow cheese.....Anyhow, if you want to eat a pizza that resembles the italian one, this is the place for you. Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, Maison Thomas etc are vague imitations of pizza, you guys. As an Italian, either Pizza Mia or nothing.
Goodbye maison thomas, pizza hut, da franco and everyone else. Pizza mia thank you for opening you doors to us. The best pizza in Cairo to say the least. The best thing is that it is tasty and light. You don't feel 'heavy' or stuffed after eating it. Their pizzas are great. I recommend that everyone must try it. At least it's clean, the ingredients are fresh and it is not greasy like all the others in Cairo. It's a big hit and its obvious why it has gained so much popularity so quickly. Because it's good! D
I come from Rome but for now live in Egypt. I must say this pizzeria in zamalek serves pizza that is above the average pizzerias in Italy!! Absolutely wonderful taste and wonderful couple owning the place. Pizza a taglio by the slice is also very good. I know they cater to all the Italian community in Cairo. So you can gurantee great food there.
